Powers of Attorney

If you are going abroad or finding it increasingly difficult to sign cheques and deal with your financial affairs, it can be helpful to set up a Power of Attorney.

You select a trusted friend or relative who can sign cheques for you or perhaps deal with a specific matter (such as selling you house) whilst you are abroad. This person is called an attorney.

We will be able to help you by preparing the appropriate documents for your requirements and answering any questions you may have, whether this is when setting up the Power of Attorney or perhaps when you are acting as an attorney yourself and are unsure about what to do.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is useful for everyone to have, as it ensures that someone can handle your finances or make decisions regarding your personal welfare, for example if you were seriously injured in an accident.

Such a document could avoid costly and time-consuming applications to the Court of Protection to access your bank accounts at a difficult time.

Enduring Powers of Attorney completed prior to 1st October 2007 are still valid, but they have now been replaced by Lasting Powers of Attorney.
